THRIVE The Beginning of the Mentoring Relationship Journey
Welcome to the relationship section of Thrive! with Dr Sabrina D. Black which will primarily address relationship issues and concepts around mentoring.
Let me quickly share with you how I became involved with Thrive!.
My great uncle Mozelle just celebrated his 100th birthday in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is my intent, Lord willing, to live to be at least 105. So naturally I wanted to be there to rejoice with him regarding living a full abundant life.
I come from a very large close knit family who’s motto is, “Love is Love.”
One of the ways we demonstrate love is by being present at momentous occasions. Last year we held our 30th Family Reuinion in Nashville, TN with over 300 present. My mother and father just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November of last year. There were some 40+ people in the wedding party and over 400 invitations were mailed. Needless to say, we love celebrating and spending time with family. Oops, this is the short version of how this site came into being.
Well, while driving back from Cincinnati, we discussed the changes of the last century and more specifically the last decade. Technological advances have brought an avalanche of new resources, sites for networking and social media. It is difficult to keep up with everything between myspace, facebook, linkedin, podcastalley, and the like.
We laughed as we discussed how much time it takes to keep up with it all. During the discussion, I realized that it had been at least 2 weeks since I had followed up with all the request from people to be my friend, attend a webanair, teleconference, etc. I purposed that I would take off work today and just spend some time getting caught up on all my correspondence and paperwork.
While looking at all the emails and notifications for reply, help, input, action, etc. there was a notice from Karolyn of THRIVE a ministry designed for women. The note was a few days old but I responded and sent her my number.
She wrote to request that I come on board to work with THRIVE in the capacity of Relationship MENTOR.
Her invitation was very thorough but I wanted to hear her voice and her heartbeat to determine if this connection would THRIVE. To my surprise, Karolyn called within a few hours to tell me more about how we could co-labor in the work to impact the lives of women and help them THRIVE in life and their relationships.
We prayed and exchanged information. I worked on a few other things and checked email about an hour or two later and there she was. Karolyn is a mover and shaker. She sent me the link for wordpress and she sent me the pending website for the ministry. To my surprise she had already posted my bio, photo and link to my website.
Wow!This will be an exciting journey. Mentoring is a relationship that works both ways.
Each individuals life will be impacted as the two or more come together to spur one another on towards love and good deeds. I was so blessed by my encounter today with a woman who wants me to be a mentor for all of you.
Key characteristics in any mentoring relationship are initiative, faithfulness, follow up and follow through.
Karolyn knew what she wanted. She prayed and reached out. I responded and began to pour in wisdom and insight. We have accomplished more today than many who are still somewhere thinking about it.
If you want to experience change in your life; if you desire to grow and become all that you are destined to become; if you want to discover your life purpose and fulfill your kingdom dreams then join us and join in as we THRIVE.
This first post is the birth of great things to come. Join us on the journey. I look forward to hearing from you with your thoughts, questions, comments or concerns. We are here to help you THRIVE.
With much love, Dr. Sabrina D. Black
